Definition: A one-time monetary fine imposed for a specific, discrete violation, ranging from ,000 to $25,000. Contrasted with per-day CMPs which accumulate daily.
In Practice
Per-instance CMPs are typically used for violations that are severe but discrete (a single event rather than ongoing noncompliance). Examples include failure to report abuse, failure to conduct a background check, or a single incident of significant harm. A facility may receive both per-instance and per-day CMPs for different deficiencies in the same survey.
