F-Tag
Definition: A numerical identifier (F0000 format) assigned to each federal regulatory requirement for nursing homes. F-Tags are used on the CMS-2567 to reference specific requirements a facility has failed to meet.
In Practice
There are over 300 active F-Tags covering all aspects of nursing home operations. Each F-Tag maps to a specific section of the Code of Federal Regulations (42 CFR Part 483). When a deficiency is cited, the F-Tag number tells the facility exactly which regulatory requirement was violated.
