Nurse Aide Training and Competency (NATCEP)
Definition: The state-approved training and competency evaluation program that nurse aides must complete before providing care in a nursing home. Requires a minimum of 75 hours of training including clinical practicum.
In Practice
Facilities must verify that all nurse aides have completed an approved training program and are listed on the state nurse aide registry in good standing. Facilities found to be out of compliance cannot offer their own nurse aide training programs for two years. Ongoing in-service training requirements of 12 hours annually apply to all nurse aides.
