Informal Dispute Resolution (IDR)

Definition: A process that allows facilities to challenge specific deficiency citations by presenting evidence to the state survey agency. The IDR does not delay the requirement to submit a Plan of Correction.

In Practice

IDR is typically available for deficiencies cited at scope/severity D and above. Facilities must request IDR within a specified timeframe (varies by state). If successful, the deficiency may be removed or reduced in severity. However, the Plan of Correction must still be submitted on time regardless of IDR status.
