Facility Assessment
Definition: A comprehensive evaluation that each nursing home must conduct to determine the resources needed to care for its resident population, including staffing, training, equipment, and physical plant requirements.
In Practice
Required under F-Tag 0838, the facility assessment must consider the resident population's acuity levels, diagnoses, and care needs. It drives staffing plans, training programs, and resource allocation. CMS expects the assessment to be updated annually and whenever there are significant changes in the resident population.
