Abuse Prohibition Notice

Definition: The written policy that every nursing home must develop and implement prohibiting abuse, neglect, exploitation, misappropriation of resident property, and mistreatment. All staff must receive training on the policy.

In Practice

Facilities must ensure that all staff, contractors, and volunteers receive training on the abuse prohibition policy. Staff must know how to report suspected abuse and are protected as whistleblowers. The facility must investigate all allegations and report substantiated cases to the state survey agency and law enforcement within specified timeframes.
